Sculptra® Aesthetic is an injectable dermal filler that’s unique from the others. Rather than simply filling in your wrinkles, it triggers collagen production to restore volume, diminish facial wrinkles, and restore a youthful appearance. Dr. Susan Hyun at Miracle Laser Medical Clinic has extensive experience injecting Sculptra to produce optimal results. Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable treatment containing tiny particles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is a biocompatible substance that has a long history of safe use for a variety of medical purposes. For example, it’s often used to restore facial volume that’s lost due to disease.
Your skin produces less collagen as you get older, causing skin looseness and wrinkles. Sculptra’s microparticles of PLLA help reverse this problem by stimulating collagen production, making it an effective treatment for shallow-to-deep facial wrinkles such as smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.
As Sculptra works deep below your skin to restore lost collagen, it gradually rebuilds your skin, restores volume, and diminishes wrinkles. The PLLA microparticles are naturally metabolized and absorbed into your body as they’re replaced with collagen.
The number of injections you’ll need, and the time your treatment may take, depends on the wrinkles being treated. During your initial consultation, Dr. Hyun assesses your face and lets you know the details of your customized procedure.
Dr. Hyun applies a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the injections. However, you may feel some pressure as Sculptra is injected deep below your skin. When your injections are finished, the area is massaged for a few minutes to help evenly distribute the PLLA.
Afterward, you may experience some swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising. These side effects typically last several days, but applying an ice pack can minimize the swelling and bruising.
You won’t need to take downtime, but you’ll have post-procedure care instructions to follow, such as avoiding sun exposure until your swelling goes down and massaging the treatment area.
When you receive Sculptra injections, your results appear gradually over the course of your treatment. For most patients, treatment typically consists of three sessions spaced over several months.
It takes time for your body to produce collagen and diminish your wrinkles. You’ll see progressive results in the first few weeks after each treatment. After your last treatment, your results can last up to two years.*
